Syringomyelia, Arnold-Chiari malformation and Spinal Manipulation.

Syringomyelia is a disorder in which a cyst forms within the spinal cord, and Arnold Chiari malformations are structural defects that result in the cerebellum and brain stem being pushed downward into the spinal column. Past research has reported that these conditions may be considered contraindications for spinal manipulation. However, a recent case study found skilled spinal manipulation to be both safe and effective in the treatment of an 18-year-old women with both of the above mentioned conditions who suffered from neck and left arm pain after a motor vehicle accident. 19-Year-old has frequent dizzy spells.

A 19-year-old young man presented to my office, two months prior to him leaving on a 2 year service mission for his church, complaining of frequent dizzy spells.  He had been to his primary care physician who sent him to an ear nose and throat specialist.  They were unable to find the cause of his dizzy spells.  A history taken when he came in revealed that he had been involved in an automobile accident a few years prior.  A chiropractic examination and X-rays demonstrated, among other things, that his Atlas (the first vertebrae in the spine that the skull actually […]

Migraines Gone!!

A thirty year old woman underwent surgery on her neck for a herniated disc.  She presented to my office one year after the surgery, and had suffered for that entire year with crippling neck pain and migraine headaches.   We found through examination that she had structural abnormalities and vertebral subluxations in her neck.  This had caused some degeneration of her inter-vertebral discs.  After a course of care in my office consisting of spinal manipulation and physio-therapies, she now reports that she is pain free and is able to function normally on a daily basis as a busy mother and […]

1 in 5 Americans Experience Chronic Pain.

A new survey involving roughly 35,000 households in the United States reveals that nearly 20% of Americans suffer with chronic pain. Among individuals with chronic pain, more than two-thirds have constant pain, while more than 50% say their pain can be unbearable and excruciating at times. Medications only relieve about a third or less of the chronic pain and can be completely ineffective in treating some types of chronic pain. The author suggests a variety of potential interventions, including physical and occupational therapy, exercise, dietary changes, weight loss, massage and psychotherapy, acupuncture, yoga, and chiropractic services to help patients manage […]

Providers Should Consider Vitamin D for Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain.

Because vitamin D deficiency is very common and has been associated with a myriad of health problems, many Chiropractors recommend vitamin D supplements to their patients as part of a healthy lifestyle. For patients with chronic non-specific musculoskeletal pain, vitamin D supplementation is known to help reduce symptoms and has little-to-no documented side effects.
