Another Reason to Consider Chiropractic Care.

A new study reveals that the medication pregabalin, also known as Lyrica, is no more effective in controlling lumbar spinal stenosis-related pain in the low back than a placebo. Lyrica is approved to treat chronic pain associated with shingles, spinal cord injury, fibromyalgia, and diabetic peripheral neuropathy, but it is commonly prescribed for treatment of chronic low back pain syndromes. Lead author Dr. John Markman concludes, “Given the cost and potential side effects associated with pregabalin, it is critical that we understand the efficacy of this drug. This study convincingly demonstrates a lack of relief with pregabalin for the walking […]

Slipped but didn’t fall.

During this time of year, we are all prone to slipping on the ice.  I got out of my car this morning, and all though I didn’t expect it, the parking lot was covered with a thin sheet of ice caused by rain that had frozen.   It is obvious that should we slip and fall, we could, and most likely will, cause injury.  But what if we slip and don’t fall?  We have all had that experience of catching ourselves and preventing a fall.  Can that cause injury?  Unfortunately the answer is yes.  That jarring movement can cause misalignments […]

Is your chiropractor an expensive aspirin?

Most people seek chiropractic care when they have pain.  Yes, I said “most”, because, believe it or not, there are people who see a chiropractor on a regular basis regardless of the presence or absence of pain. Pain is nothing more than a symptom, but we are programmed in our society to focus on the symptom.  This is the medical model, and because insurance companies are owned and operated by medical doctors, it is the insurance model.  If you do not have symptoms, you do not need care.  If you do have symptoms, than care should be focused on getting rid […]

Maybe it “WON’T” go away!

Often people come in to my office after suffering with a particular pain for months.  They usually make the statement that they kept telling themselves that “maybe it will go away.”  I had one patient recently that had suffered for 20 years with low back pain, all the while telling himself that it might go away.  Common sense should tell us that a problem will not go away until what is causing the problem goes away. We pride ourselves on finding the cause and correcting that.  This allows the body to heal itself, and when the cause is gone, the […]
