Spinal Manipulation Reduces Oxidative Stress in Cells!

Twenty-three chronic neck or back pain patients received spinal manipulation twice a week for five weeks. Pre- and post-treatment blood tests showed an increase in the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx). SOD and GPx have been observed to decrease oxidative stress in cells. Oxidative stress is associated with reduced telomere length, a biomarker of biological aging.
